let him find out

Every woman has to find out that her husband is a selfish beast, because every man is a selfish beast by the standard of a woman. But let her find out the beast while they are both still in the story of 'Beauty and the Beast.' Every man has to find out that his wife is cross -- that is to say, sensitive to the point of madness: for every woman is mad by the masculine standard. But let him find out that she is mad while her madness is more worth considering than anyone else's sanity.
~ G.K. Chesterton, "Two Stubborn Pieces of Iron" in The Common Man

I have the best sisters

Jess came for a week just after she finished her first year of college at Hillsdale. The three of us had a fabulous time doing girlie stuff (well, as girlie as we ever get) and enjoying just being together.

We all decided this will be our album cover - now we just need a band.

And of course, we spent a lot of time with the horses.

A Prayer

Lord, please let him be tall enough so my feet don't drag the ground!

(I wasn't really laying hands on my horse - photographer Shelly just has good timing - she gets credit for the smiling Caspian photo, too)

Courage and Honor

An email from my dad... about my grandpa who is currently in the hospital recovering from surgery on a broken ankle. Love you Grandpa.

~~~~~~~~
In the background, a nondescript European hillside and to the discriminating eye, the tracks of a U.S. Army half-track...an M-3, I think. On the slope below, two happy young men. That’s dad on the left...smiling sixty three years ago on May 8th, 1945—the day Germany formally surrendered.
God bless him.
A Relaxing Weekend
I had begun to forget that "relax" and "weekend" can be used in the same sentence.
It has been the first relaxing weekend in many months. The first in many months where I didn't have any schedule. The first in many months where I didn't have any homework. Here's how my weekend has gone:
  • Friday evening - ride and feel the stress of the week roll off as I trot around the polo field.
  • Friday night - girls' movie night.
  • Saturday morning - sleep in, make a cup of hot tea, read my book.
  • Saturday lunch - Blue Star Cafe with Amy.
  • Saturday afternoon - massage and my first ever pedicure. (Thank you Amy for making me feel like a princess!)
  • Saturday evening - head for the barn to show off Caspian at the polo match, take pictures of Caspian, love on Caspian and just hang out with Caspian. You get the picture.
  • Saturday night - dinner out with folks from the barn. Conversation consisted of IBM, photography and, of course, horses.
  • Sunday morning - church and Sunday schoool, mini-photo shoot.
  • Sunday lunch - lunch at the Jones'.
  • Sunday afternoon - nap!
  • Sunday evening - head to the barn to ride or maybe just hang out and enjoy the weather. Or whatever I feel like doing, since I have no schedule for the rest of the day.
I think maybe I'll be more ready for this Monday, since I'll be rested. For the first time in many months.
New Series - Discovering Austin
This year I want to discover more of Austin. So I, along with a couple friends, have decided to try a new Austin restaurant or bar once or twice a month.
Last night a few of us went to 219 West - a "multi venue bar and restaurant."
They had amazing appetizers. I had the grilled asparagus with lump crab and it was perfect. If I could cook like that...
More reviews on Austin venues to come.
